It's been a while! Je me excuse.. I got stuck in Dubai. But it's been an experience! Let's get back up to speed! After i moved in with the brasilian girls I was finishing up my first freelance project. It was an absolute joy to live with Camila and Kika, the things that i'll always take with me are the dancing in the mornings in their apartment, the working at the table while more and more brasilian people were dropping by, slipping me mochitos from the left and right, till it was just too impossible too work, the brasilian bbq's all over town, the going-out 3 times per week, watching Wicker Park over and over with Camila and talking about love and life with her. It were my happiest days in Dubai. I was sad I had to leave their place after a month, because they all flew back to their country for holidays.
I was looking for tickets to leave myself, since i was finishing up on my second freelance project. I almost booked, but the company i was freelancing for offered me a contract. I thought long and hard about it, but figured out that I could use the money well for my travels, plus I had made quite a few new friends and the temperatures in Tibet/Nepal and India were the best around September to November. It all made sense to stay, so I signed up for 3.5 months. I moved in with a Romanian girl (Adriana) for two weeks, who also helped me out with my first VISA run to the neighbouring country Oman, after which I moved back to my original villa where I stayed with Rammi and Paul in their tiny room. Their was no space left whatsoever when we were all sleeping, they both work in stores in Mall of the Emirates and we all had different working times the whole time, so it was a nice chaotic coming and going in the room!
In my contract I had negotiated that the company would arrange my accomodation, so I was moved into a villa in the Jumeirah district. My boss reasoned it would be nice to put me in a house with only photo models, which indeed turned out to be a blast. I met Colin and Sybilla there, who became very good friends. Once i walked into the supermarket looking for boxershorts, and who did i see on the cover... rrrrright! Colin! Groovy! ;P Back then I was working very hard, even to the point of sleeping in the office one night. But I enjoyed what I was doing very much, so I had no problems with it whatsoever. Colin and Sybilla left Dubai recently and I hope to see them again somewhere :)
The summer started kicking in and after another month I had to move again, because my boss this time had found me a room with his ex-girlfriend and two other house-mates. I'm still sitting in that room right now. I must say the last two months hadn't been as happy as the others, all my friends were busy busy or on holidays, the work started tiring me and the whole, work/eat/sleep routine has never been my biggest buddy. I felt a bit lonely at some points and I realized that I had indeed made the right decision to start travelling in the first place. My time to move was coming up. I am very happy I had made the decision to stay in Dubai though, not for the money, but it was my first full-time job and it has been important for me looking at the 'working-society-lifestyle'. I for the first time had money to spend and I'm not as tight about it anymore, which I always had been :) I'm curious about how and where i'll end up later in life, the 9-to-5 working days still aren't for me. We'll see where we end up! Alhamdulila :)
As I felt I needed a little break i went back home to Amsterdam for almost 3 weeks, that's right! I cheated! Haha! I really wanted to see my friends and family again, and I such a great time back home that it was very hard leaving again. Went sailing with my 4 parents, brother and sister in the north for a weekend, road-tripped with Bob to Berlijn where we totally rocked out at the love parade, had a poker tournament with all my friends, we went running in our boxershorts through the water-spraying-sprinkler installations in the park at 3am at night, went to play capture the flag in the woods near amsterdam after an open-air-theater-play, where I RAN against a tree, hard! Had a loud loud singing session of ALL the 90s songs in the vondelpark from 2am to 5am, met some really nice new people and basically caught up a lot with everybody. I wanted to visit my ex-girlfriend Sigal in Israel, which I was actually a little bit scared of (last time i saw her we were still together.. :) - but with the war with Lebanon, it wasn't the best idea to go.. so I flew straight back to Dubai :)
So here we are... another 9 days and I'll leave here. I'm slowly starting to say goodbye to the people I have met here and it feels like i'm leaving another little life behind. Ironically I've been falling in love a little with someone I met last Sunday, but I'm really happy about this :) it brings back some of the colors I had lost to the memory I'll once call Dubai.
Come what may.
