Argentina is famous for its beautiful "estancias" or country ranches (a la Southfork from Dallas) dotted all over the extensive "pampas" (green fields where those juicy cows are grown for steak). For those with money, "estancias" offer a taste of the high life - overnight stays in luxury accommodation, with leisure time to gallop around the estates on thoroughbred horses.

As this was the end of our trip and we'd gone a bit overboard on the shopping in Buenos Aires, we didn't have money, so we settled for a day trip to La Cinacina - a tourist "estancia" at San Antonio, an hour outside the capital.

We didn't get to stay overnight and we didn't get to gallop around on any thoroughbreds. However, we did get a huge "parilla" - open fire bbq of ... yes... more steak, and a show of folklore dancing while we ate.

Later we got to watch "gauchos" (cowboys) gallop up and down on very fast horses doing some impressive high speed tricks, after which we got to plod up and down on very slow horses doing some unimpressive sack of potato impressions!

It was all shamelessly tacky and touristy and I wish I'd had the money to stay on a genuine "estancia". Maybe next time!
