If you have been following this blog, you will know that our trip home from Maui was quite challenging. Our plane leaving Maui was cancelled and the United Airlines agent who rebooked us, did so with an impossible itinerary. When we arrived in Los Angeles we had only 40 minutes to deplane, exit the security area, bus over to a different terminal, get boarding passes from Air Canada, go back through security, and board the plane. When we arrived at the Air Canada checkin, our next flight had already finished boarding and we discovered that United had not booked any flight for us out of Los Angeles, so we were stranded!
Air Canada stepped in and booked a later flight from Los Angeles to Toronto and on to Winnipeg, with transfer times that were achievable. While we were assured that our bags would be checked through to Winnipeg, when we arrived in Toronto and went through customs we discovered that our bags were not following us. The rest of the flight home was uneventful, other than the fact that we would not have our luggage when we got in at 8:30 pm.
Advice to the wise, do not fly with United and check carefully when flying with Air Canada as they use United for some of their US flights. United lied to our faces multiple times and could have cared less whether we ever arrived at our destination. It would have been worth spending more on flights to avoid the customer abuse from United!
We arrived in Winnipeg bone tired after travelling for 19 hours, 14 of which were in the air. All is well at home. Myra slept in on Friday to 10 am while I went to the airport to pick up our bags. We are at the lake now recovering from our journey and reconnecting with life.
Thanks for following along with our holiday through this blog. We had a wonderful time and not only recovered from some health issues going into the holiday but were able to reach that blissful state of being where peace and love rule the day. Maui is a second home for us and a place and returning there is always a pleasure.
