Today we returned to the ocean!  We did three dives with Tiny Bubbles operating out of the Kaanapali Beach Club.  Timmerz was our dive instructor as we seek to earn our advanced open water certification.

Our first dive was the Fish Identification dive.  We saw many turtles, Moorish Idols, Butterfly fish and had a close encounter with a pregnant white tipped reef shark.  A highlight was listening to the whale songs...our background music for the entire dive.

Our second dive was the Scooter dive.  For this we use a battery powered scooter to fly underwater.  We were able to observe a Turtle cleaning station where small fish clean the turtles of parasites.  Abundant turtles that were curious about us and approached us to check us out.  Great fun flying through coral canyons!

Our final dive was a night dive.  We dove underwater in the pitch black ocean with only dive lights to illuminate the reef.  Our first observation was being watched by thousands of red glowing shrimp eyes.  We saw three different types of lobster including a giant spiny lobster.  A highlight was encountering a porcupine puffer fish that was about two feet long.  Timmerz teased it until it puffed up to basketball proportions.  It is a completely different world at night when all of the shy animals come out to hunt.

We passed all three tests and have to look forward to our deep dive and underwater navigation on Saturday.

We are both really tired after three shore dives in one day, but had a lot of fun.  Underwater pictures will follow in the next couple of days.

The weather today was a bit cloudy and cool but still shorts and t-shirt weather.
