It was a good sleep. Woke up at 7.30 then went in search of breakfast. I thought that it would be easy to find something, i really felt like some cereal and as there were 7elevens on every street corner (the Hong Kong Starbucks) that one of them would have some... it turned out that they didnt. In the end this turned out to be a bonus as i had found a bakery in my search and i had fresh bread instead!! All of the bread was sweet, it had like a syrupy coating to the top. I really liked it!! It was HK$15 for 6 buns which is a very good price!! From there i went to one of the markets where i found the rest of my lunch - in the shape of apples and oranges, these would also be used for snacks on the long train and bus rides!
We were all to meet in the foyer of the hotel a 11.15 for the start to our Intrepid jurney. And this started with the really exciting activity of walking... yes walking with all of our gear and packs. It wasn' t that far tho so i guess its ok!! the walk was to a bus stop where we got a bus to the chinese boarder. It was a 2 hour bus ride. There is one thing i have noticed about drivers in China is that they love to use their horn, they use it to let other vehicals know that they are there, when they are passing eachother, or just when they feel like it!! so for someone trying to catch a bit of shut eye it is bad, always getting woken up just as soon as you had fallen asleep!! So annoying!!
When we arrived at the boarder at Guongzhou we had to get off of the bus to go through the leaving section of the passport control. Once through we got back onto the bus and headed to chinas immegreation. We got the bags off the bus and went through all of the normal procedures when entering any country. It all went smoothly got throught the xray fine. But when waiting for the rest of the group someone came over and asked to look through my food bag, they did and then took out my precious fruit!!! And i was looking forward to eating it!! Once the whole group had been assembled we then walked to the bus. This was a new bus and it was on the other side of the road (right) from hong kong where it was on the left. It took a few on our bus, i will mention no names, a while (half hour and more) to realise that we were on the otherside of the road. We stopped in the middle of the highway in Guangzhou where we got a taxi to where our group leader (George) worked. We dumped our bags in his office and had a wonder about and got food for the overnight train.
At 2.30 we left in taxis again for the train station to board a sleeper train bound for Guilin in the Guangxi Provience. It will be a 13 hour trip in total, and should arrive at 6 in the morning. At the airport there are a lot of people sitting outside the train station. Once asking george why he said that they are not allowed to enter the station until a certain time before their train and their busses from the different provences arrive at different times so they have to wait. We went straight in!! Had to wait about 10 mins before we were allowed to board the train. The sleeper carrige was devided into 11 sections of 6 bunk beds. My feet stuck out of the end of the bed. We played cards and talked to the lights out which was at 10.
