ok, iīve written this enty twice in the last 2 days, but the computers kick me off when i go to send it.  argh!  so, this will probably be short.

saturday the bus dropped us off at lago villarino and we hiked about 20 minutes around the lake and set up camp.  then we got the surprise of neighbors.  there were a few cows grazing in the woods.  as long as they didnīt leave us a cow pie we didnīt mind.  we gathered a lot of firewood and ismael cooked us rice for dinner, just rice.  very unsatisfying.  then we watched the sun set over the mountains.  itīs absolutely beautiful here.  the lakes in the area are glacier relics, and the water is so clear and cold.  itīs a lot like maine.  that night there wasnīt a moon so we could see millions of stars, amazing.  i got a little freaked out when i turned around to the woods and saw nothing but darkness.

the next day, sunday, we tried hitchhiking to the next campsite, but after an hour in the very hot sun, the bus came by, so we grabbed that to the next town camping
camping
.  then we decided to just go on to bariloche.  weīre trying to get south as quickly as possible so we have time to explore down there.  we got to bariloche around 730 and then hiked around for over an hour looking for a place to stay.  i say hiked cause they have very steep hills and itīs not easy carrying an extra 30 or 40 pounds.  we finally caught a city bus out of town to a campground and then had to hike up the longest, steepest dirt road known to man.  we were exhausted by then so we just made some oatmeal with raisins and hung out at camp the rest of the night.

monday, we did some errands around town.  for lunch ismael made some awesome beef stew.  he is really good at this campfire cooking.  we finally downloaded our pictures to a dvd (we couldnīt do a cd cause it was too much).  there were 736 pictures.  wow!  but thatīs for 5 weeks, and ismael got a little camera happy with the carnaval in oruro and the graffiti in valpo.  we went to try to upload them to a website, and after 2 hours only 115 were done.  i tried to stop it, but instead it just canceled the whole operation and didnīt upload any photos.  ARGH!  i was also writing this blog entry, and the computer said i was inactive and erased my entry.  DOUBLE ARGH!!!  sometimes i really hate computers.  but they are letting me write to you from the other side of the world.  to make me feel better we went for a weekly splurge of fondue, bariloche has a lot of fondue restuarants.  big disappointment.  it ws just plain old melted swiss served with stale bread.  what a crappy day.

hi
Can't wait to hear the rest of the story. And hoping you get south to the glaciers. Did you go swimming in the cold lakes?
What about churches? Have you been able to go to some different services and experience them there?
Love you tons,
mom
