Once we got to Santiago we headed to the plaza de armas to look around. to get there we had to take the metro. we had to change twice, but it was actually easy. their subway is soooo nice, much better than the el. it was clean and very fast, and the ride was smooth and quiet. very nice. the plaza there is beautiful. on one corner there is a beautiful old cathedral and across the street is a tall building entirely of mirrored windows so the cathedral is reflected in its facade. very interesting, the old in the new. we left our bags at a hostel while we went out to make some phone calls. we wanted to rent a car for a week instead of taking buses. that way we could go where we wanted and stay where we wanted. we reserved one for the following day. they´re even bringing it to our hostel so we don´t have to lug everything there.
back at the hostel we showered and played around on the computer
on the metro going back to the plaza we were in the first car and right at the front. there was a window and we could see through the conductor´s station out the front. it was like riding in the front compartment on the disney monorail (that always makes me feel special). it was very cool at night, coming into the city.

. ismael found out that the most famous chilean fútbol team, colo colo, had a game that night, so of course we had to go. the stadium is divided into sections, like family and that kind of thing. since it was a wednesday night it was pretty empty, but the section of the hardcore fans was almost full. and they made noise the entire game. they chanted so loud we could understand from where we were sitting. and they jumped and whistled. it was crazy to watch them. and colo colo won 1-0. on the metro going back to the plaza we were in the first car and right at the front. there was a window and we could see through the conductor´s station out the front. it was like riding in the front compartment on the disney monorail (that always makes me feel special). it was very cool at night, coming into the city.
