Barcelona and Montreal have more things in common then you may imagine .. which is why I love this city.
Though I was there working I did manage to re experience Barcelona a little bit once work was finished. I worked with a great group of people both from Spain and Canadian. We worked with long hours however at the end of the work project I did get to explore a little bit before departing..
Had nothing but great experiences in Barcelona, then again I do speak Spanish which helps and can sort of figure out Catalan. .
Barcelona had everything for all your senses, though it was absolutely freezing for the days we were working there. Europe was getting unusual snow and cold and Barcelona was not spared.
I always travel with warm clothes because I just never know where I will be sent to... I brought had, long johns, gloves, mitten, fleece, warm socks... so that standing outside was bearable.
People were wonderfully helpful, pleasant, nice always with big smiles. There are public bike rentals like Montreal's known world travelling Bixi. The metro is easy to use. Its an easy city to walk everywhere. There is great food on every corner. The wines are excellent. The women are beautiful the men are gorgeous .. so I had no shortage of eye candy every corner I turned. Shopping was fantastic, the food was delicious.. what more can a girl ask for....
I worked with a great professional team who also had great sense of humour and we laughed about everything. We had excellent tourist guides and knowledgable staff.
To Enjoy Barcelona you must use your Five Senses...
Taste and Smell
Start up with the bread , crushed tomatoe and olive oil
For starters try the Padrons . try the croquettes as an entree or tapas.... of even better just have tapas and try everything..
If you love fish, sea food then you will be in heaven beyond beleif. Ask for the catch of the hour and ask for what is in season. I had fish every night I could. I had baked fish, the mussles were devine, the crabs, and prawns tasted like the sea.
Enjoy the Markets especially Boqueria on the Ramblas if you only have a short time... possibly ne of the world's most fantastic markets and historical... with everything you can imagine..
Great tapas places every where..
The Port Olympico has lots and lots of seafood restaurants along the beach.. and marina..
Spanish wines are devine. I tried several from Galicia which were extra ordinary.
Of course for breakfast with orange juice or for 5 a 7 enjoy and share CAVA with someone.
The Ramblas, Marina and just about every where you go have seating outside to enjoy the sun,
It only rains 25 days out of the whole year...
Barcelona is a living work of art. From the place of volunteers from the 1992 Olmypics. To Picasso, Guadi, Art Nouveaux everywhere, Modern works of art, continuing work on the Segrada Famillia., The architecture.. window shopping..
To the stunningly good looking men every where.. Your heads will be spinning ladies.. Women have great orginal outfits with their own flare and style.. ...
Wait till you touch those leather purse that feel amazing or when you wear a pair of Barcelona's Espadrille which are comfy ang Eco freind. they feel lik slippers to the touch.
The shoes .. are heavenly. to the feel.
I bought shoes and I bought from a brilliant lady working with me who is artistic.. jewellery that she made.Africa Ruiz is a beautiful and brilliant women with great artistic skills and qualities.
Fanatic Catalan music, as well as the guitar and the sounds of the flamenco dancers well get your heart racing to the music.
The Professional Tourist Guides are very good. There are walking tours, motorcoach tours, bike tours, double decker hop on hop off tours. Not to be missed is the Guadi and Picasso Museum.
Try and do a cooking class with a market visit which I couldn't as I was too busy.
Its an easy and safe place to get around..enjoy!!
