We're in Australia mate!!!

We stayed in Perth for a few days with Darren Bell and his family in their lovely home! When we arrived we were welcomed with a sunday lamb roast!! It tasted so good. After spending the last number of months in Asia you really appreciate a nice piece of good meat!

We had a great time with Darren, Joy and their kids Leah and Jacob; we played on their trampoline, learned the basics of Australian Rules football and visited Hilarys Boat Harbour where we were treated to the most amazing sunset, so clear, the colours in the sky were so beautiful!

We spent a day exploring Perth city centre including the famous Swan bells, taking a cruise on the swan river with captain cook cruises, buying some warm clothes and enjoying a top notch lunch with Darren and family in Mauds restaurant.

We also caught up with our mate Simon who took us to Fremantle. It was pouring and we got soaking wet. We decided to stick to indoor activities and visited the Fremantle prision after a delicious fish and chip lunch by the port while watching a seagull fight in the pouring rain. Simon brought us up to speed on the party areas of the city and we tried out the local brew in Northbridge and the Sail and Anchor in Freemantle while we warmed up.

We rented a car for a few days and visited the Pinacles, about 3hrs drive North of Perth. We made it for Sunset and the limestone formations in the desert evening sunlight were breathtaking and otherworldly. We really enjoyed our trip there and to the town of Cervantes where all the street signs were named after Spanish cities. Right after sunset we saw 2 huge adult male kangaroos having a pretty serious boxing match...definately in the heavyweight category!!

On the drive back to Darren's house we decided to take a shortcut which at the time seemed like a good idea, but it brought us to the middle of a pine plantation on a dirt road meant only for 4 x 4 vehicles!!, We had a tiny car and drove very slowly; lots of families of kangaroos jumping out in front of the car.. so scary!! We had to cut our losses and turn back!

We loved our time in Perth especially being able to catch up with friends. They made us feel so welcome. We've been spoiled with home cooked meals, entertained by Darren and his digereedo, boosted our immune systems with Joys kick ass vitamins and completely blown away by their hospitality... oh yes and the bed!! mmmm so soft and cozy, we almost cried getting up each morning.
