Train arrived at 9am in Chiang Mai and after being dropped at our guesthouse we had a nap for a couple of hours. Had a delicious lunch in the local vietnamese restaurant which had talking birds who could say Hello, Sawadee Kah and do wolf whistles...weird (they sounded like computer voices)
Visited a temple in the hills in the afternoon before meeting our trekking guide at 6pm to go over the itinerary for the 3 day trek in the jungle of northern thailand and what we should bring as our main luggage was staying in the guesthouse. Spent the remainder of the night with Peter and Simon at a phenomenal local dinner show which specialized in live traditional dance and food. Such a surprise..we were expecting a local folk performance of a low standard but we arrived at an amazing custom built theatre packed to the gills with locals, tourists and performers. The layout was fantastic as the tables were set into the ground around the performance space. So close you could touch the performers. Food was a mix of local chicken, pork, veg, rice and the popular sticky rice.
After the show we got a tuk tuk to the night market and bought lots of DVDs and local crafts. More thumbnails ...
