We took off when it was already dark and seeing Vegas from the sky is a highly recommended sight.
The most informal though highly efficient airline crew ever (Air Soutwest) took us in one piece to the 8-terminal LAX airport.
Instead of driving the long stretch between Vegas and LA, we dropped the car the first day we got to Vegas and then we took a flight to reach LA - a 35 minute journey where the lights of Vegas seem to merge with those of LA. This time it was Anna's turn to be interrogated by 'Homeland security', the fact that the cover of her 9 year old passport had worn off aroused suspicion. This was heightened when the immigration officer (we weren't leaving the country?) looked to see where she was from... Jersey? But not New Jersey... she clearly must have made up a fictional island and forged a passport for it. Further security checks were required- after attempting to prove her identity by showing numerous credit cards and a driving licence, the big boss was called in and Hamon's bacon was saved. He was from Noo Jersey and so had heard of 'that little place near France'.. we were given the green light to proceed. Phew.
