Last day in the US with a trip from Washington by train about 15 hours all up on Amtrak. I like trains and this was comfortable you can plug your laptop in if you need to so I was able to watch movies. The scenery was fairly ordinary with some towns or backs of towns looking decidedly in decay. The train cafe as it was called was about the same as the little shop on the australind but American style hot dogs, burgers and soda! (we brought our own)
The American Falls were spectacular....which made up for the run down hotel, lack of restaurants etc
Its very touristy and quite tacky. A but like the Gold Coast. We walked to the Canadian side(just as spectacular) and got very short shift from the US border officials who didn't want to know us so the US has no idea we have actually left their country but something tells me they don't care who leaves just who comes
Canada was very welcoming and we caught a bus/train to Toronto. All of a sudden the visual landscape has changed no BIG Gaudy signs all over the highways pointing to the next fast food outlet! Yay
We have found some great sites to book hotels for much cheaper
www.hotwire.com and www.getaroom.com tonight is in a holiday inn (yes a bit run down but) $60 you would never get that in Perth OK so its near the airport and we can hear planes coming in every 5 mintues so what!!!
Weather should be a balmy 12 or 13 degrees in Calgary which I guess is about what is happening at home! and its forecast rain oh joy!
