Not sure where I'm up to but I will try and remember........so many places visited since my last e-mail (jealous yet??....lol).
I left San Francisco and headed by Greyhound to Los Angeles, a busy and buzzing place. I arrived in the YHA hostel in Santa Monica, not far from the open air gym called Muscle beach on Venice Beach, guess where I did my sunbathing!!!
How about this for a story, I met a lovely couple in Washington D.C. on the 4th July, they lived in LA and they invited me to stay with them, so a few days after I arrived in LA I was picked up by Jean and Mike, shown around the sights, taken out for lunch and then whisked away to their lovely home. When you are back-packing you are gratefully to any offers and having a queen size bed, on-suite, food prepared for you and most of all a Spa in the garden is complete luxury.......:-0))
Jean and Mike took me under their wing and adventured out and about for the next 3-4 days. It was hot and sticky but that didn't spoil doing a tour around famous people's homes in Beverly Hills i.e. Phoebe from Friends house. I took loads of photos with my new hi-tech digital camera of the Hollywood sign, movie places (where they shot Pretty Women on Rodeo Drive), met a famous Rapper and went to the Kodak place where the Oscars take place.
Loads more activities took place over the 3 days but on the final day Jean and Mike invited the family round for a BBQ, great to see 3 generations of an American family.......their BBQ gathering is totally different to us English, beers where flowing but it didn't go on until the early hours of the morning and loud music.
Time to leave LA and join a tour bus company to drive for hours to Las Vegas and on the way I paid $125 for a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, fantastic......I have loads of videos to show you all.
Got to LV late but it's a place that never sleep's, the heat was so intense so the bar was more appealing than the freezing air conditioned casino's (back-packers don't have any money anyway).
Got back to LA two days later and soon as I arrived in Santa Monica hostel I was welcomed by another back-packer called Helen.......we soon realised that we were on the same flight over to Fiji. The next day we both jumped on the Air New Zealand flight decided to get our money's worth and pinged the bell for a V&DC and another one and another one......the flight was 11 hours!!
Fiji was beautiful and hot, Helen and I arranged to visit 3 Islands together, and some resorts nicer than others. We had a warm welcome but everything else cost us money from either night's entertainment from the locals to perform for us to snorkeling. I headed out to the caves where you go under-water to get to other caves, very scary but not as much as been bitten by tic's and seeing a HUGE spider in this tiny cave with 6 other people!!
After been bitten and sunburn we headed back to the main land for our flight the next day, still with Helen we have now arrived in New Zealand. I've got a good feeling about this place already or is it the fact that we now enjoy electricity, hot showers and no bugs (including the randy Fiji men)!
Better sign off so you guys can go back to W.O.R.K........lol. I have 3 months in NZ, anyone wishing to escape for the UK, buy that ticket and join me here.......
Hope that everyone is OK and keep returning the updated e-mails so I can keep in touch with you all.
