Combe to Blenheim to Woodstock. We stopped at a pub to get my first beer - great!. I showed the bartender my Ordinance Survey map and I asked him how long it would take to walk a certain dotted red line. He said about 45 minutes. So it was clear we had to drive a little closer. So we drove to Combe. I was so excited that we went out of town the wrong direction but it turned out for the best anyway.
The idea was to walk through the fields and suddenly step on to a long straight road. And that is exactly how it worked out. So I asked Mom where we were. Unfortunately it was a gray day and Blenheim Palace wasn't shining in the sun. So I pointed it out and we started walking.
We took pictures as we walked around and went into the beautiful village of woodstock
Had a reasonable lunch and we tried to walk back the way we came - we went out through a front door. The guard wanted 11 pounds a piece to go back in but after we explained what we were doing he told us about a side gate just past the Black Prince pub. We found it without too much difficulty and went back through Blenheim Park to Combe. We walked through the park and out a side gate. Unfortunately the last mile was through deep mud in 2 fields of rapeseed - it was supposed to be our first mile - fortunately we'd taken the wrong road out of town. The last field ended at a church but just before it ended Mom slipped and fell in the mud.
I destroyed my toe in my old boots so that was the last I wore them until the Castle Drogo walk.
Got to the White Hart Pub in Downtown Winchcombe around 7. Split a dinner and a couple of good beers. Couldn't sleep so I got up and did Chinese for a couple of hours sitting on the toilet.
