Tonight I have travelled from Santa Cruz to Trinidad, in the Amazon basin. It's been quite an experience.

I arrived at the bus station to find that I had 2 hours to wait for the "cama" bus, on which the seats recline all the way. I passed the time with a dismal coffee and a read of the local paper. I even got given a receipt when I went to the toilet! That's a first!!

Once I was on the bus and we started moving, I was treated to a busker with his panpipes and awful voice, followed by a sales pitch for a series of books. Both hawkers did okay and made a bit of money - but not from me!

It was pretty comfortable in the "cama" seat and I slept pretty well. The only problems were the lousy video being played a full volume for 2 hours and the stops every 3 hours for a "comfort break". The bus did have facilities but I never tried them out.

At 6am the bus stopped again. I was expecting a journey of 10-12 hours, so I was amazed to be in Trinidad after just 9. The bus station turned out to be a half hour walk from the centre, and then I had to find my next bus - not where the guidebook said!

Trinidad before 7am is peaceful and quiet, but I had no time to dwell as further travel to San Ignacio de Moxos awaited.
