. Trying to make the best of it we hit the beach and proceeded to enjoy the 2 good parts of this resort, 1$ beers and the beach. So the next morning we got the first boat back to town and headed further south. Realizing we could only make it half of the distance of what we thought we could do we spent the night in Legazpi which for lack of a better word is a shit hole. Again the next morning we headed further south to the end of luzon island to catch a ferry to the next island. so we arrive at the end of the road at the ferry only to find out the ferry we need leaves from a different town which we passed already. So we jump on a motorbike tricycle taxi(AKA a tricey) to the ferry. As we are pulling into town we see a few buses parked all crooked on the road and were thinking its a bus accident but what we didnt see and our tricey driver did was a couple of guys pulling over buses and robbing them. Luckily our driver realized when he did he turned around and went full throttle in the other direction. We were really confused not realizing what was going on and after he explained to us what was really going on we thanked him and told him to take us back to where we came fromn to a guesthouse on the beach for the night. When we got there Raya was a little shaken up so we calmed her nerves with some cold strong beer. After a few liters of 6.9% beer our nerves were not a worry anymore. The next day was a total write off as we spent the night chatting with a retired US soldier over a bottle of brandy
. After nursing our hangovers in our hammocks we caught the right boat south heading to Cebu. Our night out in cebu was at a bar with live music with a cover band taking requests. so after a few drinks we sent in our request for any fleetwood mac and the response we got was a surprise. "umm sorry we dont know fletwood mak" but our next song is everyones favourite Air supply song. Baffled we said to hell with them we're out of here. The next day we arrived in dumaguete where they are rumored to have some of the best diving in the world. Not wanting to get our hopes up we signed up for diving the next day and hit up the beach front patio for some good food and some strong rum drinks. The diving around Apo island did not disappoint! It was the best diving we had done so far and the marine life was impressive. We saw sea turtles, sea snakes, eels and too many kinds of tropical fish you only see in aquariums. The next day we realized our visa was gonna run out in the philippines and not wanting to have to bribe immigration in our first country we headed to our final philipino island of mindinao. Now everyone had conflicting opinions about going there from "oh dont go there, there are bandits that will kidnap you" to "i would rather be there than the downtown eastside in vancouver at midnight". (the day we arrived in manila a irish priest was kidnapped from the city we were heading for) Since that didnt really concern us we headed down to zamboanga to catch the boat to malaysia borneo. Luckily i got to watch the pacquiao vs cotto fight in the bus station with about 70 or so philipinos around the 20 inch TV. Soon as the fight was all over the buses were good to go and with everyone in the philippines in a good mood cause their national hero won we were safe from any kidnappers. We arrived safely and the next morning we showed up at the port at 4:30am for our 5am boat to malaysia later to find out it leaves at 5pm. Needless to say we had first choice of cabins and once the boat left we watched the philippines fade away.
Now south bound we decide to check out the rugged pacific coast of the philippines.... well we heard about this great little beach that is boat access only and you are able to camp under palm trees and chill the day away. so after the overnight bus from manila we take the next bus from Naga to the caramoan peninsula to take the boat to gota beach(this idylic beach). After all day on bus and boat we get to the village where we ride in the back of a truck down the road to where we will be camping. All of a sudden we realize we are entering the gota beach resort which i assumed is the enterance and we will be camping further along. well i was totally wrong, last year "Survivor Philippines" was filmed on this once quiet beach and now they had built a 80 bungalow resort for all the staff and crew. Realizing we had travel all day to get to some lame resort i was pretty pissed once i found out the price for the night in this resort. Since there was no other option we bit the bullet and and got a bungalow
