I'm overcoming my aversion to writing entries on anything other than my laptop once more, simply because I feel an incessant need to document how deliriously happy I am in this very moment. Life is complete & absolute bliss.
This weekend has been a blur of Christmas festivities, great music, even better company & such endless joy. There truly aren't even words to make you comprehend the euphoria I'm feeling. Friday night was the Arlington Heights tree lighting, in which we all huddled together in the huge North School Park under the candy cane lamp posts & sparkling arches to watch them flick the switch to light up the enormous Christmas tree & surrounding displays of children's toys. Call me crazy & a traitor to my own, but the weather makes it all seem so much more Christmasy! No snow as of yet but the simple sight of everyone in earmuffs & beanies & gloves & coats, it all seems so appropriately festive!
And then last night, oh my lord, last night.. THE KOOKS!
The crowd of early-arrivals was about 530734572530 times longer than we expected. We got there a half hour before the doors even opened (meaning an hour & a half before the first of two opening bands would even take the stage!) & the line was already snaked all the way around the corner of the building! & here we were thinking this band isn't all that known in America. HA good joke. But despite the wait in the rain, the fact that we paid over double what we should have for the tickets & witnessing Salima almost punching on with the girls in front of us, the show was the best I could have ever asked for. I think I died a thousand deaths every time Luke Pritchard opened his month or showed off his oh so gloriously goofy dance moves. Not to mention the opening bands, one I'd seen before (but were sufficiently drunker this time so they were a lot more fun!) & one I'd never even heard of but am already quite in love with. Overall it was just the most brilliant thing I've seen in my life. Ended up getting home at about 2am, but managed to stay up talking to well past 6 (encouraged by the decision at around 4:30am to give up trying to sleep & share some beers instead haha).
And so here I am, after a day of furthering my completion of my christmas shopping list (it's not even December & I've already got almost all my pressies!) & driving along playing highlights from all the best bands, reminding ourselves of the sheer abundance of amazing live music we've been privileged to witness in this beautiful, wondrous city. I'm still shocked every day by the realisation of just how strong a life I'm building here, but I love every last aspect of it & wouldn't change a thing. Oh delirious, delirious excitement. Aaaaahh (:
