Holy hell, I'm nineteen!
Can you believe that?

So I'm not sure what to say about my birthday,
it was easily the best I could have hoped for.
Halloween is my new favourite holiday.

We went to dinner at Mago's a couple days before my
actual birthday, this Mexican restaurant I loved til they
made me wear a 'birthday sombrero' while they sung
happy birthday in front of everyone! T'was fun though,
& the strange Mexican birthday cake I got was pretty
delicious. (Though the Mexican taco fortune cookies
were questionable at best!). Then Thursday night was
the halloween right of passage of carving a pumpkin!
They're actually really quite disgusting inside. Had to
pull out handful after handful of .. well .. orange mush!
& in true unorganised Rachel style, I didn't really plan
or draw how I was going to carve my pumpkin, just kind
of started hacking into it. So in the end, we'd decided
my pumpkin had participated in an underground fight
club, hence why it was missing some teeth & an eyeball!

And then, finally came my real birthday! After a whole week
of early birthday cards & 'pre-birthday' wishes from Valerie,
I'd pretty much come to the conclusion that she was more
excited for it to be my birthday than I was .. until the day
actually arrived. We were driving to school in the morning
& she says to me, 'Guess what todayyyyyyy is!?'. I turn to
her in excitement, only for her to answer her own question
with 'my biology test!' -.- I then ask, 'do you know what else
today is?',
to get 'the end of the first quarter'. Thinking third
time's the charm, I ask again. 'Anything else?' She thinks
for a long time, then I see the lightbulb go off in her head.
'Oh I know! It's Fridayyyy, the weekend's almost here!' -.-
I had to laugh, 'That's it! That's what we've been waiting for
alll week'.
Then all of 2 seconds before she got out of the
car when we got to school she finally realised haha. For
the rest of day, every 5 minutes I got 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY
PRINCESS!' to make up for it. Such a sweetheart haha.

So anyway, the rest of the weekend was spent at both Illinois State University (ISU) & University of Illinois (UofI) to find out if it's true what everyone had told me, that nothing beats halloween on campus. I've gotta say, they did themselves proud. It was definitely an experience to say the least haha. Despite the feeling completely ignorant when I didn't understand half the constumes (due to about 50% of them being from American TV shows I'd heard of but never actually watched), and being both complimented on my accent as it showed real dedication to my costume & then confronted with complete disbelief (and accusations of deception) when I told them it wasn't an act.. It was a great weekend. Definitely some good memories made (& some memories somewhat lost haha).

Finally ended it with trick or treating on Monday with both
my host kids. Valerie's Frankenstein's monster costume was easily one of my favourite ever! Both to make & just for how well it turned out! My costume was a fair bit worse for wear by that point (as it had already endured two hectic nights and at least 4 different parties) and our trick-or-treating was a rather short adventure. But it was still great to experience!

I really truly just couldn't have asked more for an American
birthday & halloween! & gettin' 3 packages of pressies all
the way from Australia definitely just added to my delirious
happiness! Virtually every Aussie thing I could have wanted
(with one exception I thought would have been the most
obvious choice haha but nonetheless). So much nostalgia
packed into postal boxes that I almost cried! Pure bliss.

(& here I have to cut short my 3 promised entries.
it's 2am & my body clocks all confused cause of daylight savings ending.
more tomorrow or when I finally get the motivation again!)
