The only other thing worth noting of late is that I witnessed my first college football game! & more importantly .. I ACTUALLY UNDERSTOOD IT!
(Props for which go to my host dad for explaining it all so well, & of course my host sis for demonstrating all the cheers & victory rituals!)
So if I'm being honest, it was actually a pretty poor game.
Though after the immense build-up I'd been given (with extreme emphasis that the team was undefeated!) it would have been hard for it to live up to it's hype. Nonetheless the feel of it all was AMAZING. They had a marching band that made some pretty sweet formations, plus cheerleaders, a dance squad, cannons they fired when we scored a try (or a touchdown if I'm being culturally correct), a victory song, & of course, a team of oh, y'know, just about 90 footballers. Yeah. 90. Not even kidding. THAT'S INSANE. I couldn't get over it. I must have sounded incredibly dense as I had to ask about 10 times 'so they're all our players .. all of them .. really? Seriously!?' That seems crazy to me. They literally took up the entire sidelines. All in uniform &
yet majority of them wouldn't even make it onto the field. Madness!
They had this pretty sweet 'Stripe The Stadium' thing going
on though, in which they'd informed everyone to wear just one of the team colours (orange or blue) according to what section they were sitting in, so that it alternated in stripes the entire way around the stadium (except of course for the minority of Ohio supporters who ruined it with all that damn red .. & those like us who were oblivious to the whole attempt & wore bright orange in an entirely blue section.. oops!). Looked pretty sweet though, & they took this huge 360°interactive photo. Check it out, I'm tagged in it, but so are about 2944099290104523953 other people, so y'know..
good luck! http://www.fightingillini.com/fancam
On top of all that I got a pretty sweet mini tour of the
college campus (dorm rooms, frat houses, it's all so typically American!) & for dinner ordered what has to be the largest & thickest pizza I've ever seen in my life! The term 'deep-dish' really doesn't do it justice. 17" wide & almost the height of my key card! Absolutely ridiculous. Could hardly make it through a single slice.
All in all, it's been a pretty sweet weekend. Next up, my birthday & halloween, both of which I'm super pumped for.Going to carve pumpkins on Thursday, then dress up for Trick Or Treating come Monday, & even though I'm certain everyone's going to misinterpret my costume,
I'm actually super proud of myself for having made it (& my
host daughters!) For a girl who can't sew I'm pretty damn
resourceful! Photos to come in next entry. So excited!
