I woke up to red light streaming through the bus windows. When I sat up, we were parked, and I saw some people had gotten off the bus. I sleepily stumbled off, and saw that we were watching the sun rise over the Grand Canyon. It was an amazing red line on the horizon, just beautiful. After watching it for a little while, the ones who had woken up got back on the bus and went back to sleep. When we woke up again we were in the Grand Canyon Park, and were given our itinery for the day. We'd go have breakfast at one of the lodges, and then we'd have the day to do whatever we wanted! Three people in our group wanted to hike to the bottom of the canyon. You can't do it in one day because it's too dangerous, so they'd hike in the later afternoon, get to the bottom, hikme back halfway up, camp there and climb out early in the morning. Everyone else was going to explore the rim. Some wanted to get helicopter rides into the canyon, but that was too expensive for me, so I opted out of that.

So after breakfast, everyone sorted out their helipcoter rides, and then we walked along the eastern rim trail. The views were fantastic. The Canyon is really awe-inspiring. It's just so big, and although you can just see the Northern Rim, it looks like it goes on forever. So we walked for a while, then had a few drinks at the edge, while I made important phone calls home! By that time it was the afternoon so we went to camp to have some dinner, then it was off to the rim again to watch the sun set! It was really beautiful, and a lovely end to the day.A couple of us woke up early that morning to go and watch the sun rise. When we got to the rim, the sky was some lovely pastel shades, with this weird cloud that looked like a fish. It was pretty cold at that time, and we were about to go as the sky wasn't changing, when the sun started coming up properly, and starting lighting up the canyon. It was fantastic, it would hit different bits and turn them red. So I sat on this ledge and just watched it by myself. It was probably one of the most peaceful times of my whole trip. Wrapped up in my hoody, at the edge of the Grand Canyon, watching the sun come up - what could be better.

Once the sun had lit up most of the canyon we made our way back, as we were freezing. That day everyone went off to do their helicopter rides, so I went off by myself to walk round the western rim trail. I thought the views from that side were better. Then I met the boys back at the bar to hear about their helicopter journey, before having some lunch and watching football! Aftet that it was back to camp to make dinner, and then off to watch the sunset again! On the way we also got up close to a female elk, which was cool. Afterwards we went to a really interesting ranger talk about the discovery of the Grand Canyon, and it's human history, which was really good (and the ranger wasn't bad looking either). That evening was our last night together as a whole group, as the next day we lost people in Vegas, so we had a few drinks to celebrate and then went to bed.
