What I did
The weather was fantastic - clear blue skies, and very hot. Discovered a lovely little bit of beach that looked out to Rangitoto. There was no one else around, so just chilled there for an hour or so, watching the sea birds (I think they were seagulls?) Met a nice guy who drew me a map of some hot springs that I have to visit (he was a hot springs expert apparently).
Carried on around the island
The birds there were great. Lots of little sparrows flying around (including one that decided to follow me), and I briefly spotted these amazing green and red parrots, but they flew away and I didn't see them again. I'll have to look them all up later!
Once I had walked round the whole headland, I went back down to the beach to have my lunch. The sun was blazing, and in my search to find some shade I discovered a little rocky cove, round the corner of the beach, hidden from sight. The perfect little hideaway. After eating my lunch and reading some Lonely Planet, I just sat on the rocks dangling my feet in the water. Then I felt something on my foot, looked down and saw a little shrimp thing clinging to me! Who needs a fish spa 'eh?
As the tide was coming in, and threatening to cut off my little cove, I moved onto the sandy beach. It was such a beautiful place. Golden sand, turquoise water, and Rangitoto in the distance. The perfect place to spend an afternoon. I rolled up my trousers and did some paddling to cool down (must bring my bikini next time!).
Finally it was time to head back, so reluctantly I packed up and jumped on the ferry home. All in all a lovely, chilled day.
