Camping on Lake St Clair in winds gusting 110 knots?!!
Drove from Hobart to the middle of Tasmania where we camped in Cradle Mountain, Lake St. Clair National Park. Went to what I must say is, by far, the best Visitor's Center for a National Park that I have ever been to. The Rangers showed us where to camp, where to hike, what to do, best things to see, gave us a weather update...and basically made us a cup of tea. How wonderful is that?
Went on a 3 1/2 hike up to another lake called Shadow Lake where we saw Wallabies, a giant (I think 6 feet Lisa thinks 4, but what does she know? she's little.) Tiger snake, and an Echidna (looks like a big hedgehog, but lays eggs?). A great little walk.
Steak dinner in a big lodge with fireplaces, big high beamed ceiling. Was perfect. the wine went down a treat! Camped by the big lake, St Clair and rode out a really quite big wind storm. It really did gust 110 knots. Which is fast. Damn fast. The tent did a great job and got us through tho!
