Woke up to a rather overcast day -- questionable on whether kayaking Milford Sound was a good idea. The camping had been good, but it was a quick shovel down the oatmeal, break camp and hop in the car back to Milford Sound.
We had such an amazing time kayaking in Abel Tasman, and Milford Sound is sooo stunning, we were really looking forward to it. We raced back to the tunnel to MS (it runs on a 15minutes one way, 15 minutes the other -- so it if you miss it, there is a lot of waiting around!) where the traffic light wasn't even on, so we just went for it.
met up with the bus at the backpackers place in MS. I made cheese sandwiches and peanut butter sandwiches while Lisa brushed her teeth. They might have been the highest pressure sandwiches ever made. From sitting in the drivers seat with one knife, a magazine, thick bread, cold peanut butter...it took what felt like ages!
Once lunch was sorted, we followed the mini bus down to the launch. Got with our group, got the briefing and hopped in. At this point the weather was clear, but the forecast was for the weather to change fast to 40knot gusts -- not fun in a kayak.
No rooms to get out of the rain. So into the tent...
But the wine helped!
