After our partying the night before, I admit it was a serious struggle to get to the airport the next morning however we pushed on through and was glad to find half the groove guys in the bar supping on Bloody Maryīs before their flight back to the UK via god knows where. Itīs always reassuring to know someone always feels worse than you !
Arrived in Foz and managed to find a hotel pronto so we could dump the back packs and get out of our clothes. Did someone turn the dam heater on again ??? The day was as lazy as it gets however we were particularly pleased that the proximity to Argentina meant that the restaurant over the road was serving steaks as big as my head. We had one each and some more just to push through the hangover, then slipped in a couple of cheeky Chopps (draft beer not lamb) before watching a movie and crashing out
Today is known as a "travel day". Definition -some travel and bugger all else mixed in with general hangover.
Argentina 22nd Nov
Skipped across the border after the general formalities and found ourselves at Los Helechos as recommended by our Peruvian travel buddies Emma and Paula (whom we found having a leisurely breakfast at the hotel). Headed of to the Argentinian side of the falls soon after and spent the afternoon checking out Iguacu falls from different perspectives. AMAZING !!! Difficult to compare to Victoria falls but even after seeing those I was stunned.
One of the most dramatic angles is reached by catching a little train and then going over a series of walkways that take you out over the river to the Devilīs throat. The rest of the afternoon was spent cruising around the tracks that run around the falls and then we decided to do a boat ride to take you up close the falls. Absolutely hilarious ! They say you get wet and I was like, yeah whatever just a bit of water. Ha ! We put all of our stuff in plastic bags and then set off
Walked around a bit more leaving a big puddle behind us before heading back to the bus. On the way we stopped on the path to see what someone was trying to take a picture of and we saw toucans flying around and perching on the trees right by us. Very cool !
Had a lavish dinner out with the girls with steaks like a small football and enough good wine to keep us all afloat.
Argentina and back to Brazil and to Paraguay and back to Argentina ! 23rd Nov
Managed to negotiate a taxi for the afternoon to drive us back to Brazil without any visa complications (donīt ask why we didnīt stay in Brazil, it just made sense at the time) and a round trip to the Brazilian side of the falls and then off to a micro light cent re and back
Well we thought we might be all waterfalled out but arriving in the national park at the panoramic view points was incredible. As you are so close on the other side its difficult to get any perspective of the size of the falls but on this side you get a full panoramic view which is stunning. We cruised around and got soaked again on some of the walkways and got completely carried away taking a photo of every angle of waterfalls. Had lunch overlooking the falls (very pleased to have another opportunity to fill our fat bellies with Brazillian comida buffet. Yum)
Cruised off back to Arg. and about 10 km out of Iguacu to the micro light centre. After a brief read through the disclaimer we signed away our lives and before we knew it B was strapped into the back of the trike and heading off down the runway. After a nervous 15 min I could see a speck in the sky and they came back to earth, very impressive smooth landing which I was quite pleased about as I was having a small brown trousers moment.
Took off after the obligatory dorky pictures and went off cruising over the lakes and over the Itapitu Dam. Absolutely incredible experience and not actually that scary apart from the moments when you start thinking ...what would happen if the engine cut out now ? Would the hang glider take us down to the side of the lake...how high are we exactly ! Anyway we swooped over the border into Paraguay and then back to the landing strip. Very cool !
The taxi driver Pepe was so taken with the whole thing he managed to persuade the guy to take him up for a quick spin which was a very amusing site seeing him in his smart trousers and shirt (a rather rotund man) bouncing off down the run way waving at us with a big smile !
