Decided to try and be adventurous so we went off on a small day hike to Tipon which is a fine example of an Inca irrigation system.... Got a bus along the road packed to the rafters and just about managed to scramble off the bus when soemone pointed out we were passing Tipon. As soon as we got out we looked up at where we needed to climb and suddenly go a bit nervous when thr woman at a stall at the side of the road said Tipon was muy lejos...(very far) as luck would have it (funnily enough) she happened to know a guy that would drive us up for a cheap price. We buckled and agreed much to my inital disgust. However after 20 min sheer uphill I felt a bit better about it !
We cruised around the site and decided to hike up to the source of ones of the irrigation systems as practise for our upcoming Machu Pichu trek. After much huffing and puffing we managed to reach it though the rain
We decided to walk down to the road which took us a good hour or so, not least because we got hijacked half way down the hill by the school kids returning to the village who had perfected the stop the gringo game. The squirts armed only with themselves and some palstic bags managed to hold hands and form an inpenetrable barrier to stop us from getting past them. Bob managed to sneak past but I got trapped ! After much hilarity all round ( the kids, Bob and general villagers) I was allowed to pass. Unfortuntalty no photos as it was a very amusing moment !!
Back at the road we hung out to flag down a bus back to Cusco not before first admiring the local Cuy al horno (roasted guinea pig) stalls which were plentyfull. Not quite hungry enough (honestly!) we quickly escaped back to Cusco before we changed our minds and became Cuy eaters !
Later that night at a restaurant with a wood fired oven outside we watched a Cuy slowly
roast in the oven Bob was tempted but...
