Those of you who have followed our Round America trips since 2003 know that one of our Rules of the Road is to drive on two-lane roads, take our time, enjoy the sights, take lots of photos, and eat where the locals eat.
We broke all the rules today. We drove on Interstate-20 from Atlanta across Alabama and Mississippi and into Louisiana. The only two-lane road we saw was the one in front of our home. We drove at the speed limit, and we didn't see much of anything. I saw a big cow in a field near Meridien Mississippi, but that was about it. The only photo I took was the jam packed trunk of our little loaner car. We ate lunch at Chick-Fil-A and dinner at Red Lobster, and both meals were poor.
We do have an excuse, however. We are a day late leaving Atlanta, and we are headed to Great Grandma's House for Thanksgiving. Some things are much more important than the Rules of the Road.
We are staying at the Marriott Courtyard in Monroe, Louisiana tonight. Monroe is the logical stopping point on trios between Atlanta and Dallas. We have stayed at a hotel at this I-20 exit many times.
The TV in our room was switched on in time to settle in for "Dancing with the Stars." Our favorite won. If the Texas Tech Red Raiders had only done as well....
Tomorrow, we plan to see a few interesting sights and get some photos before we arrive at Mimi's house.
Stay tuned: Paris is coming soon.
Trip Tips: Always ask if a hotel has complimentary Internet service, and make sure it is compatible with your laptop. This hotel has wireless Internet, and I have a wireless card in my laptop, so it worked fine. Always ask for a quiet room. Specifically request a room that is not near the vending machines or elevators. This hotel is right on the Interstate, so we requested a room on the northwest corner. We have stayed here before on the Interstate side, and it was loud. Our room tonight (208) was perfect.
