The idea for our trip Round America began in the mid 1990's. After over 25 years of starting, building, and selling businesses, my wife, Barbara, and I began talking about how much fun it would be to travel all around America.

 The idea we came up with was to hop in the car with no pre-set itinerary, and drive to small towns. We would see a kinder and gentler America than the one we knew from big city life in Orlando, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, and Cleveland. We would eat where the locals eat (the small cafes in every town that always have great pie), get to know people in small towns, and just take time to enjoy life. Friends and family referred to the trip as "The Pie Trip."

So, we began thinking and planning for this trip seven years before we departed.
