That American Pie book really threw a monkeywrench into our plans.
But as with so many things in life, lemons can come from lemonades if you just get creative.
We're selling our interest in Hotties, so I will be retired again. Barbara and I really want to take our trip. So, I have been thinking about the trip. Rather than just drive around with no itinerary, I believe we can have a much greater experience if we research and have a plan. So, research has begun.
Then I began working with a map, and after plotting a number of special sites we wanted to see, I drew two ovals that would enable us to visit every state. So, two laps aRound America, and two flights to Alaska and Hawaii, and we will do it -- ALL 50 STATES in one trip.
What a crazy idea. We're going to leave on April 1, 2003. April Fool's Day seemed perfect for such a crazy idea.

We need a name and a concept. We still want to "eat pie," but the name "The Pie Trip" is out. All of a sudden, the idea hit me. Let's not just drive around on two-lane roads, let's drive to ALL 50 STATES in one trip! We can call it Round America. I jumped online to my favorite domain registrar, and I registered www.RoundAmerica.com. Then I began working with a map, and after plotting a number of special sites we wanted to see, I drew two ovals that would enable us to visit every state.
