Where I stayed
Well here we are on the big bird heading for Toronto and then on a shuttle to Niagara Falls, the flight was full so no spare seats and the day was good they said it would be a nice flight and only 7 and a half hours across the pond. We arrived at the Toronto airport got the bags and away we went on a shuttle the traffic was not bad but the colours were great the reds the browns and the yellows were stunning in the trees.
We arrived at the Oakes overlooking the falls as it was the closest to the falls and had a view of both falls that was to so Oh God that's amazing and stunning. So after settling into the room we went out and had a look around and came across the casino now this was huge and full of people and shops as well as the Casino, we decided to have Johnny Rockets and had some Poutine, this is something that i was told was a national dish and they have all sorts the basic one comprises of Chips and then gravy and then they add cheese curds to it this one was just cheese and that was ok but i prefer the standard chips and gravy and then i had a Hamburger and a coke Nancy had a Chicken strips and chips and they were terrible hard as bullets and dry as and to add insult to the whole deal the meal cost us over $40 with taxes and tips sheesh we can't keep this up
Today is another perfect day a little cloud to start then it burns off so we decided to walk across the rainbow bridge, and enter the United States of America. We had to pay 25cents each to leave Canada and after passport checks and finger printing an photographs we had to Pay another $6 to the border guard before he would allow us into America, once in we followed the path down to the tower that overlooked the falls, there were people lined up to do the maid of the mist on the American side but as we have already done that we opted for just the walk out on the tower to get some photo's there were people every where on the tower and every conceivable camera from ipads and iphones to little mini cameras and more elaborate ones.
We then walked down and around some construction that was going on and got to the edge of the falls, it was awesome to see all that water just rushing straight over the edge and we were only a few metre's away from it. we followed a path that led us over the river twice and then we arrived at the American falls on the other side but first we crossed over the bridal falls so had plenty of photo's there we then headed down to the main falls the horseshoe falls here we can again get right up close to them there were birds hovering on the up draft of the falls and some were just looking as if they were stuffed as they did not move a feather just hovered then the wind changed and we all had to make a mad dash away as we were getting soaked and no wet weather gear, so we headed back across the border this time did not cost us anything and back down to Clifford Hill it is the theme park area rides haunted houses wax museum shoot-em galleries and fast food places
The day again was beautiful and we were ready to face it after another breakfast of Tim Horton's it was down and out and about to have a look down at the falls we went down on the train that takes you from our Hotel down to the fall front we had a look around the and took some photo the number of buses arriving was amazing there were heaps there plus people going to do the walk behind the falls and the Maid of the Mist on the Canadian side, we managed to get some Rainbow shots and then decided to have a walk around the are and then head back and get ready for a early drive back to Toronto in the morning where we will be there for a couple of days before heading up the east coast by train to Halifax, so see you all in Toronto.
Stewart and Nancy.
Hello all its Baz,
Well well well what a flight he as usual ate the plane out of food, but still was a good flight had to be up at the crack of dawn for a taxi that we were quoted as 50 quid got to the airport driver pulled out the luggage then said that will be 75 quid and Stewart looked at him and said no we were told 50 and he was about to argue with Stewart and Stewart put on his strict voice and said that's all the cash we have mate take it or leave it and walked away with this driver trying to look serious and wanting to ring his boss so stewart said mate ring the hotel and take it up with them they told me how much and he walked away as the driver slammed his door and drove off
We landed in Toronto and waited for the shuttle that was to take us to the the hotel in Niagara, It arrived and the lady driver was ohhh a spunk shush don't tell Nancy i said that we were soon off picked up a couple of other people an away we went the drive down was ok except they have idiots on the road over there as we do a few close shaves but she was a good driver did not hit any of them, we arrived at the hotel and were allocated a room on the 12th floor and when we got in my heart skipped abeat there were these huge floor to ceiling windows and when u turned around a huge King bed and there in the corner was the biggest heart shaped Spa bath i have ever seen it was so huge that me Angus could take a week to swim the length of it and then there was the view it was OMG you could see both Falls and for miles up the river. We lucked out here with the room and view plus a corner unit as well, we went down to look for something to eat and when we found it it was a food court and there was a hamburger joint called Johnny rockets so thought that will do but 60 dollars later sheesh no won,t eat there again, we went back to the room and decided to morrow to go to the American side or as i call it the Dark-side, so see u all tomorrow.
The Sun again was with us today and another beautiful day was promised so after breakfast we set off for the dark-side well blow me down they want us to pay 25cents to get out of Canada, I would of thought it would be free to see the backside of Stewart, so we wandered across the bridge taking photo's of anything that moved or did not ran across some Aussies heading into Canada and had a natter with them then proceeded to the American Border security they wandered around typical power play one bloke looked at us 6 times and did some stuff fiddling around till he saw a few more people coming in so decided we had waited long enough to come into America or it might have been the fact stewart said in a loudish voice come on lets go back no one here wants to see us and it is a waste of time, next thing the bloke yells out next and waves us through he then asks for the passports and tells Nancy to put her left 4 fingers on the pad then her thumb does the same with her right sheesh i think we were criminals, he then ask Nancy to look into the camera and says ok and gets Stewart next he has to take his glasses off and hat so that when they arrest him they will know what he will look like, then the crunch comes he says ok you have the visa wavier thing but its still going to cost you 6 dollars to get into to the states sheesh i know they are broke and all but to charge people admission but then again America is the worlds biggest fun park
So off we go and let me tell you one thing we ( Baz and Taz) will not be responsible for any missing squirrels just to let you all know. The first place we went to was so scary it was head rushing scary the hairs stood on the back of out neck as we walked closer and closer to the edge of this look out thingie, there were a zillion Asian people out there all taking photo's of their friends and themselves with the falls in the back ground. We then wandered around the park following the water as here they can get up close and personal with the water, and it is such a lovely park the difference from the Canadian side to here was amazing why the Americans want to go to the canadian side beats me as all there is are hotels ad theme parks the real Beauty of Niagara is actually here on the American side the falls can be seen from every conceivable position the American falls the Bridal falls and then the Horseshoe or Canadian falls, we wandered around taking pictures getting wet when the wind changed directions and best of all no crowds at this end of the park as the tours are usually for a quick stop of the lookout and then the boat ride.
We headed back across the border and then went to have some lunch the food was shocking so we left and headed up the road i was saying to Stewart get a taxi get a taxi but he wanted to walk so by the time we got back to the hotel Nancy was 6 inches shorter we were scrapping the ground with our chins and he has the hide to say ohh that was a nice day and walk
Good Morning all you happy little Vegemite's i hope you all slept well as we did we had a sleep in as today is wash day and we have to go to the other side of the tracks so to speak, but first was a tim Hortons breakfast and i cna tell u we have discovered the drench Vanilia coffee and wow talk about sweet and tasty it is awesome.
We did the washing and was right the place was on the other side of the tracks there were a couple of people in
there and just as well as only 3 out of the 8 driers worked and the washing machine's were nearly full but the laugh of the day came when this lady and her bloke came in and he was shoving the washing into a couple of front loaders and i mean shoving them in he must have put 2 out of the 3 big bags in there and as he was doing that the lady was getting change and she put in a $20 bill and it was as if she had won the jackpot this machine was pumping out 25cent coins like it was going out of fashion and she is yelling at the bloke to get over here and hurry i can't hold all the coins and he scurried over and then she turned to him in front of every one and says what's it like holding my nickers in your hands well we nearly spat out the the squirrel we were chewing on and every one in the place went different shades of red and giggled and left them to their game
We got a cab back to the hotel and then went and had a bite to eat and have a look at the falls from the Canadian side we took the Incline railway down to the bottom it was a bit scary as it was virtually vertical we went along the parkway and mingled with a zillion other people who were posing in front of the falls and taking selfies. Nancy then spotted the rainbow and got some awesome shots as well as the double one, they then headed out and got something to eat at Tim Hortons and later went back to the hotel to get ready to leave for Toronto in the morning.
Stewart decided to go out and try and get the colours of the falls at night and was taking pictures when a bloody great big striped animal appeared it saw us and growled we saw it and farted and him in Stewart front pocket and said hey you ugy thing u have to get past his front to get to us and Stewart threw us out and said its a Raccoon boys its ok it only eats roots and leave and we thought yeah right, bet it does that to all the animals, well we then headed back and again shoved in the back pack so will see you all in Toronto have fun all.
Cheers Baz and Taz
