On the road to MT Cook

It's time for another road trip; this time a bit further down the island starting of with the tropical looking waters of Lake Tekapo; the rivers and streams across new Zealand have this amazing crystal clear look about them as if you can scoop up a handful and drink it right there. Unfortunately it is too cloudy to get any decent pictures so we imagine how it would look with blue skies and sunshine before heading off to Mount Cook.
It's snowing here in Mt Cook, but it's not just snowing, it's also hailing and raining with the sun shining to top it all off and they call this summer? It is bloody freezing people let me tell you; I never dreamed I'd be seeing snow this Christmas but I guess it makes it all a bit more Christmassy. Time to find some beds. The first place is full as we pretty much expected at this time of year in fact we reckon there could be a good chance of us actually sleeping in the Big Fella and we brought the sleeping bags just in case. However we are in luck as the lodge just up the road has rooms all be it extortionate prices; it's a bunk room that sleeps 5 with a shower, toilet, heater and thick blankets so it will have to do. We dump our bags and head up to the lounge area to have a look around and get warm by the nice big fire before driving over to the only pub around here for some food, beer and a few games of pool.
Back in the big warm lounge area with comfy leatherish sofa's we play scrabble which Ben won (first time he's ever played with a little help from George) after which we retire to bed in need of sleep as we have another full on day tomorrow. To be continued. . . . . More thumbnails ...
