So today we need to drop the car off which we do in good time as it is only round the corner from where we stayed last night. All was good; we managed to get the money back we paid for the tyres with out any fuss and had a few hours to kill so we find some where for breakfast and just wonder around the streets in and out of shops, mostly charity shops. BARGIN OF THE YEAR!!! We see a diddy little wet suit just for me so I try it on and it fits perfectly and all for the princely sum of $25 or about 10 English quid. Ben also tries one on but we think it is a lady's so he quickly takes it off again.
We decide we have had enough and jump in a taxi to take us to the airport where we check in with all bags being under weight for the first time in a very long time and soon we are up in the air flying down to Sydney which takes a little over an hour but there is an hours time difference too.
Once off the plane and inside Sydney airport we need to decide where we are staying. They have a board like the one in Cairns offering accommodation, some are full, some are too expensive so we finally settle for one on the out skirts of Kings Cross and yes it's just like the Kings Cross in England!! The room is ok; the bonus is free wireless internet and a TV.
We head out for a walk in the direction of the Opera House which turns out to be quite a hike form where we are saying, but it's nice out if a little windy so I will take a jumper just in case. The first part we walk through seems a little seedy and scary with a gang of kids hanging around looking somewhat menacing but once we are away from the roads and houses its really quite pretty and I can understand why Mrs. Macquarie spent so much time sitting here looking out to sea. Of course the scenery has somewhat changed since then but money has been well spent on the Royal Botanical Gardens which stretch all the way around to the Opera House and its well worth the hike to get here. We take a million pictures as we walk, stopping occasionally to just take in the view and at the Opera House we walk all the way round it. You can tell its coming up to Christmas with office parties in full swing everywhere you turn and for the first time I feel a little Christmas spirit enter my body.
We are hungry now and its dark so we decide we should head back. We can't walk through the Botanical Gardens as they are all locked up by 8pm so we take the road and get stuck realizing we had walked past a sign that says 'no pedestrians.' Brian swears that he saw two people walking past us going up the road; Ben and I look at each other puzzled we didn't see anyone walk past! Bizarre. He must of seen two ghosts, make of it what you will!
We finally get back to kings cross and enjoy a lovely Thai meal before retiring to bed; we have two days to pack in as much as we can. Night, night.
To be continued. .
