it takes about 40 minutes. The sun is blazing and a gentle breeze makes the view pretty awesome as we ride gentle waves to this tropical island that used to be part of the main land till rising waters left it standard all alone here on the Great Barrier Reef.
As we get closer it reminds us of Koh Tao in Thailand all be it a bit smaller and probably a little bit cleaner! The ferry docs, we take pics then vacate the ferry heading straight for the beach to swim and a snorkel so we can cool down a bit - it's just so hot! We swim over close to some rocks and see lots of different fish swimming around in the coral.
We try to get some pics but the camera is steaming up (we have these packet of salt crystals which is supposed to go in the underwater housing to soak up any moisture but we forgot to put them in!) so I'm afraid there are no decent under water pics but will still put a few on anyway.
It's time for a nice cup of tea as we wait for Iris & John who are today working in the dive shop here and the plan is to go for a dive this afternoon while Izzy does an intro dive.
We managed to get Bens dive for free so we only have to pay for mine which is a bonus. However I guess it wasn't a proper dive; Ben ended up doing a DSD (Discover Scuba Dive) with him being a DM and I just tagged along behind trying to get some decent pics failing miserably as well as almost getting lost!
By the time we get back on land the day is almost over; we just have time for a quick cup of tea before the ferry arrives to take us back.
The sun is slowly setting and we take pictures on the way home then as we arrive at the docks there's a huge beautiful boat named Lady Christine. Everyone is a bit starry eyed here just lately as the Hollywood celebs have arrived in town to film 'Fools Gold' up in Port Douglas staring Mathew McConnaghey (not sure how you spell his name) and Kate Hudson; there is also rumors that Goldie Horn & Kirt Russell (Kate's parents) are coming to town.
And we are told the boat in the harbor is something to do with the movie however there is no sign of them!
It was rememberance day yesterday so I took a few pics of the flowers laid around the monument on the Esplanade just cause I thought it looked nice.
I know the pics are all muddled up because we used 3 different cameras and I haven't had time to sort them into groups - we've got free wireless internet at home from somewhere so I'm making the most of it before it gets turned off!!!!!!!!!!
To be continued. . . . .
So after a hectic morning we jump on the 10.30am ferry to Fitzroy Island;
