We flew from Colombo to Male International Airport which is an island of its own. It took about 90 minutes and the view from the plane alone was spectacular. The sky is bright blue and it's hot, hot, hot. We meet a guy who checks our details and takes us over to where we get our transfer to the island which is by sea plane and we wait. We get talking to a woman from Leeds who has the best job in the world; checking out islands in the Maldives for travel agents back home. What a life! She has us in stitches as she tells us no matter where in the world she travels she always meets some one from sunny Huddersfield. If you have managed to check out the website, apologies for forgetting your name - it's all this sun!
The sea plane was a buzz we sat at the back and took what seemed like a million pics
Veligandu is a small island set in the Rasdhoo Atoll and is sheer paradise. We exit the sea plane, walk along the pier and touch down on the whitest sand I have ever seen, check in and take the beautiful walk to our water bungalow; WOW! 4 nights of luxury and oh my god a bath!! Of course the first thing I do is fill the bath which is in the most stunning bathroom, add perhaps just a little too much bubble bath, open the window and wind back to canopy to reveal the blue sky; heaven. Ben whacks the stereo on, opens the patio doors and takes in the view from the veranda, while I relax in the bath with my bubbles floating in the air. We could have easily spent every second in the bungalow but thought we had better get some lunch since we've paid for all inclusive. Now normally I'm a bit wary of all inclusive resorts, the food is repetitive, sometimes a bit rubbery and not always very appealing with me being a fussy eater an all. However the food here is absolutely amazing, seriously. We never had the same dish twice, well except for breakfast; beans on toast, with eggs and mushrooms! When we arrived the place seemed dead now its lunch time all these people have appeared from no where.
After lunch we sit in the bar, have a couple of drinks and get talking to Matt & Vicky who were on their Honeymoon - Congrats to you guys hope married life is treating you well
Me and Vicky didn't just catch any fish we caught SHARK'S; big bloody sharks! I know they said we might catch a few sharks but I though they would baby ones not 10 foot ones! What a night. Thankfully they all got away as they broke the line, but I did managed to get a couple of pics of them on the surface before they broke free.
We got back just in time to have dinner and boy did we have a feast, then retired to the bar for a couple of drinks before walking back to our room. Just enough time for a relaxing bubble bath under the stars
There is nothing to do but sunbathe, swim, snorkel, eat fantastic food and of course get drunk so we did, every day. Its quiet an achievement me being sat here today since its 3 years ago to the day that my whole life fell apart, but hey look at me now! Ben and Matt snorkelled to their hearts content while me and Vicky sunbathed and chattered as women do.
NEWS; NEWS; NEWS:
The big news is that Ben arranged this fantastic meal on the beach for us and proposed with a huge rock of a diamond ring (obviously we have told our parents before announcing this on here). The night was perfect and most of the island new what he was planning but I didn't have a clue. Bye the way I said 'yes' but it will be a long engagement. We went back to the bar played a shit load of games of pool, drank too much alcohol and laughed till our ribs hurt.
Vicky and Matt left today so we spent our last day chillin on the beach, and thought we had better take some pics of the island. It all went way too fast but the memories will last forever and this is one place in the world I would definitely return to given the chance and the bank balance. Next stop Thailand.
To be continued. . . . .
