The bus to Mamallapuram which I can not pronounce let alone spell took 2 hours and we spent our first night at the school teacher's house from the guide book. The bus station is a small square which was being re-gravelled when we arrived with a stone type bus shelter. It is now super hot and we need air-conditioning so we decide to have a wonder around and Ben does what he is best at bargaining as the season is over and rooms are cheap, cheap, cheap. If you can afford an air-conditioned room then your deemed to be a flash packer so we treated our selves to a beach bungalow which was massive with air-con, TV, a fridge and a fan on the balcony all for £8 a night.

Mamallapuram should be renamed Hampi-on-Sea. It is a small fishing village with great restaurants, one bar and lots of ruins. We decide to spend a week here and chill while taking in a few sights. You can walk round this place with great ease, the people are friendly and its history is interesting And there off
And there off
. It is too hot in the afternoon to be out so we spend most afternoons in our air-conditioned room watching films or what ever is on the TV in English. Ben has been dying to hire a motorbike for a day and finally talks me into letting him. The roads are quieter so for one day I am a fully fledged biker chick. It's a TVS, it looks old and knackered even though the owner says it's new, only six months old - to him maybe. Ben drives us to the crocodile park 14k away where we spend a few hours and on the way back we stop at the tiger caves and a few other ruins. The rest of the week is spent mostly in bed, on the beach collecting sea shells, eating good food or in the only bar in the village. The bar is called Lounge @ Home it's a cross between the USB Bar and Revolution which are two pubs in my home town and for the first time I truly miss my girlfriends. I can picture us all sitting here on the soft leather couches/beds with huge cushions, flashing lights and dance tunes we would be singing and dancing to back home getting pissed on any given weekend. I want to fly them all here, stick Paula, Sharon, Gayle and Lisa on the beach in this 90 degree heat so they can work on their tans. Beth, Nick and Mallory would build sand castles with Annie and Callum to name but a few.

The week went buy so fast. We watched beautiful sun rises and perfect sun sets, enjoyed the piece and tranquillity which not often found in India and all too soon it was time to head off and explore once again.

To be continued. . . . .
