Yes there is really good food coming out of Belgium. Words can't even describe a hot Belgium waffle cooked up fresh and topped with your choice of whipped cream, chocolate or gooey sugar.
Brussels also has an amazing main square, The Grand Place, which is probably the most impressive main square I've been to in all of Europe. That's a pretty big statement but I'm willing to stand behind it. The square is surrounded by buildings from the 1600s that used to be guild halls for the weathly guilds (merchant groups). There's also a big city hall and Duke or King houses. No church though which I found unusual. I guess it shows that Belgium was pretty business oriented place, even back then.
Brussels is the new Capital City of Europe (ie headquarters of the EU) and makes a big fuss about that but there isn't really much to do here but snack and wander around. Luckily I had only 24 hours to kill here before meeting up with Marj and heading to Brugges.
Oh yeah, they are also famous for their seafood, especially their mussels. And their hundreds of kinds of beer, for those who can tell the difference (obviously the love affair with beer is beyond me, give me something fruity to drink any day). I think the cheese is also probably quite good but there just aren't enough meals in the day to try all these things!
