(Sorry for the delay in posting this- I was waiting for some photos from people!)
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! No doubt the holiday conjures ideas of turkey and pumpkin pie, but not this one... I went to my Indian roommate's home for the break and had authentic indian food for days- it was DELICIOUS.  Both Northern and Southern styles of cooking too- lucky me!

We stayed at her home in San Jose, which is an adorable really American little house in a suburb that is what I imagine when I think of American suburbia.  The first night we had Thai food for dinner before I headed to what felt like my death bed- I was very ill all of that week and all of break.  The next day we went to an Indian housewarming/thanksgiving meal before driving to Santa Cruz to do the scenic "17 mile drive"- beaches, golf courses for the rich, and mansions for the ridiculously rich.  It was beautiful but I felt I couldn't really enjoy it to its full extent because I could barely breathe haha.  That night we got dressed up in Indian clothing for Thanksgiving dinner at the Saggi household- yummy yummy in my tummy! After dinner I was forced to take bed rest before we went Black Friday shopping first thing in the morning (unfortunately I slept so long that I missed dessert- at least my waistline benefitted from that haha).  We left the house at midnight and headed to the mall and frenzied crowds of people trying to get the best deals.  There were also queues to get into stores.  It was a very interesting experience- I can't believe they do this every year! In the end we were all too tired to line up so the only things purchased between Sneha's friends and I were a Northface jacket and a mascara.  Never fear though- Sneha and I went shopping that night and I got some winter boots and knitted stockings etc.

The next day was spent in San Francisco, which is only about 40mins drive away from Sneha's. We were so lucky to have a perfectly clear and almost windless day in the city known for it's fog and wind! The Golden Gate Bridge was first on the agenda for the afternoon and was definitely worth the holiday traffic! It is a beautiful piece of architecture and the views of the city and surroundings are stunning.  Afterward we headed to the waterfront for lunch at Boudin, but the entire block had a power outage so instead they showed me around Fisherman's Wharf area and then walked to Pier 39 to the small Boudin there to eat. Soup in a sourdough bowl is delicious. We explored the pier, which was bustling.  They made me try their favourite mini doughnut place and we visited the left handed store! Any right-hander who tries to use my San Francisco mug is in for a messy surprise haha. I also had the joy of seeing the Pier 39 seals- man they are loud! Afterward we went to Lombard St, the most crooked street in the world, before heading home to San Jose for the night.

The next day was packing day with bagels for breakfast (have I talked about how amazing the Bagels in The States are yet? Coz I should really devote an entire post to them- they're that good.) and a quick visit to some more of Sneha's family (I get the sense they have an enormous one) on the way to the airport for the flight home.  It was such a great trip, just relaxing in an actual house as well as good food and sight seeing with one of my american favourites.

That was the last break before Winter Break and the end of my semester here... I can't believe how time has flown! Packing is going to be such an effort haha. Anyway, best be off now! Much love xx
