Leon *** Sunday Feb 4th- 5th, 2007...Subway, Radio shack, no sign of the usuals though
After 14 hours of travelling by boat and bus on Saturday and 6 more on the Sunday, Collins and I arrived in our destination of choice, Leon, Nicaragua.
Nice place. Back to the colonial cities...We saw the largest Cathedral in Central America...Mexico is not considered Central America. It`s also the home of the Sandinista`s main supporters...more bout this when I learn.
We were in the Casa Cultural yesterday and there was a painting of Ronald Reagan holding a gun sitting on the head of an indigenous woman..Not a town who love the former American governments anyway
The poverty here is abject..wasn`t expecting it to be soo bad as Leon is such a big tourist destination. Thought maybe the Nicaraguans might try to cover it up a little or something. Really heart wrenching stuff. You could go to your bank account and take out 500 yoyos and still not have enough to give to all of the beggars and individuals without hope here.
Tomorrow, we head to Managua the capital. Sposed to be the least globalized of Central American capitals. Looking forward to it.
