Well I didn`t go too crazy on the Saturday night as it so happened. Went for a few scoops and sat like a semi loner with Collins looking round at other people who wouldn`t talk to us! Despite not drinking much, woke with a massive hangover that reminded me why it`s so much better to indulge in the licuados (type of smoothies that most pubs offer over ere) than beer.
Just spent the Sunday lounging round and went for a 6km walk along the beach. Dipped my toe toes into the Carribean sea for the first time...decided I wouldn`t risk swimming in the sea cos whilst the beaches in Tela are mostly fabulous, they are completely ruined by the existence of a huge amount of litter. And if the people had such little respect for their sand, I didn`t wanna think bout what was in the water. The basic, sad fact that exists in Tela, and on the Northern coast of Honduras in general, is that whereever there are people, there is litter.
A bridge divides the New Tela from the old Tela, the New Tela side is
full of more expensive restaurants and one or two luxury hotels for the
more resourceful tourist! Northern Honduras is the land of bananas (and
absolutely deliciously juicy oranges) and Chiquitita bananas used to
have their main plant here. One of the more luxurious hotels there had originally been the place to stay for the top guns of the companies.
We were staying in the cheapest accomodation in town (a shocking 2 dollars each!) and although it was actually a lot better than some of the other kips we`ve stayed in, it didn`t have any shower. So instead of crouching over a sink like normal, we decided to use the facility of the swimming pool in one of the hotels. We tried to look as inconspicous as possible...but even if just a bikini and shorts, I still managed to look like a knack! But anyway, we managed to go for a dip in the pool. I saw an official looking chap wandering up and down past us a few times..he must have been wondering how he hadn`t noticed a hottie chick like me earlier!!!
We managed to stay in for another few minutes but Collins let the guard down. He spotted a jacuzzi and went plummeting forward for it...Cue on 5minutes and we`re asked to leave...how bad, we still got our shower. Honduras 0-the Irish 2
