Xela/Quetzaltenango, 30th Dec-Currently ***, Fair globalized including a very official looking Maccie Ds
Well according to Aerlingus.com, Collins and I are flying home from NYC tomorrow. HEH HEH we screwed the American customs! We originally had to buy the flights so as to be allowed into the states.
In some ways, I´d love to be going home tomorrow but in other ways, I know this is one of the few chances I´ll get in my vida to do this so better off staying on! NY Eve was very tough for me this year..dunno why but it was tougher than Christmas. It was strange cos NY eve last year defo ranks in one of the worst days and nights of my life. Bizarre, hope it doesn´t become a running trend-although NY eve NIGHT in Xela was a bitta craic. Went out with Collins and two German boys, one a freak, the other sound. We had a few in a cantina ere (Guatamaltecan place where they bring you into the back of their house and serve you drink!) The place was defo not usually frequented by gals, judging by the stares and the pics of naked women!
We then moved onto a hostel that was having a party but subsequently got kicked out for using our own drink (I gave their Cuba libres a chance but they were SICK..so what did they expect??) So headed to another public house where the Guatamaltecans were beginning to gather considering it was after 12. Good late night with frequent trips to the loo to fill our glasses with the bottle of rum...no naggins ere folks..just bottles!!!. No NY peck on the cheek for me I´m afeared but Collins was quite successful..with his flu and all! The Guatamalen women are actually quite pretty but like the rest of the world, you find the ones with more money are more pretty...
And get this, on a diff note.. despite the fact that Xela is the second largest city in Guatamala, it´s ended up being quite small- considering that one of the Guatamalen boys I´d been chatting to on NY eve ended up being neighbours with the family I´m staying with!
Family lovely. Very chaotic, fight a lot and are complete drama Kings and queens but very caring. A bit cracked too which I like.
We started Spanglish lessons here last Tuesday. I know it´s an absolute disgrace that I am now paying for lessons after 3 years of free ones in UL but it was just awful hard to get up on those cold mornings I can tell ya! Anyway, we said that we may as well right our wrong grammar early on so that we can practise it in the next few months. It´s going well but my teach is nearly as talkative as me so we´re not really getting down and dirty with the grammar as of yet. Just Monday left of it now.
Learning lots bout Guatamalan civil war though and the country´s chaotic legal system in general. Will write more on Guatamalen system when get a chance...OH YES I hear you scream!
Prob hitting El Salvador early next week. Looking forward to it.
