We met with our friends Ellie and Steve (doing a similar travel!) and they had discovered Olatnativa Green and 'mamma brazil' or Christina the proprietor. We instantly fell in love with the island, our hostel and mamma. Our laundry came back within hours (sick infested can I shamefully add) sun drenched and smelling of flowers, we had home cooked meals; meat, rice and beans and one night even lasagne! We had a room with a sea view, a hot shower and good friends next door; it was heaven!
We did a trek recommended by Ellie and Steve, (Ellie obviously told me the reality of this trek; it bloody hurts, its not a medium…but Steve said it was a must)
During the trek Anish told me our altitude and barometerised us (I don’t know!) every half an hour thanks to our shiny useful new Swiss army knife (thanks Bindu-its brilliant!) It was fun, we didn’t see any snakes but we saw lots of cute monkeys (although Ellie jumped behind me and we did get a bit tetchy when one came too close- you know rabies and all that!) and I can hear you all at home in shock that I voluntarily did it and I promise I only moaned a little bit…after all im not having Stef win this time- I will come back a traveller beach babe.
The island has amazing history, it tells a story if pirates, treasure maps, rich settlers, prisons, booby traps and has more ship wrecks in a concentrated area then any where else in the world…Anish made me look for treasure and every boat in the dock looked like a pirate ship as we played which boat would you have!
It reminded us of last year when we were on the Perhentian Islands off the coast of Malaysia, the two have some very stark comparisons; the samba, the food, culture, the running electricity. However the two paradise islands are identical in the remoteness of them (no cars/motorbikes or cash facilities), gorgeous surroundings, laid back lovely friendly people, stunning sunsets and beautiful beautiful beaches!
