This morning we walked around Pau and looked at the town centre, churches and Pau Castle. We had breakfast in a cafe - strong coffee and French pastries.

Drove from Pau to Saint Jean Pied de Port to Saint Michel today. It took about 2 hours. We did not take the freeway and tolls this time, instead the beautiful country roads. It was very scenic and revitalising.

We walked around Saint Jean Pied de Port, had lunch, browsed the shops, bought food and water for tomorrow, checked transport details with the Tourist Bureau, checked in with the Office of the Pilgrims and bought our Camino Passport for 2 Euros each, and our back pack shells for a donation. We were told that we cannot take the high path through the Pyrenees to Ronscevalles due to the snow and cold. Unfortunately we will have to walk uphill for 23 km instead of 26 km!

We then went to Saint Michel to our lodgings at Logis Xoko-Goxoa. Did a bit of washing and packed for tomorrow. Went down to the restaurant for dinner about 7.15pm. We were advised to eat well tonight before our 23 km trek tomorrow, so we took that advise. We had homemade soup and bread. Ron had Sirloin and I had Duck Breast, with 'chips' and vegetables. It was divine. Lots of beer too of course.

Vero & Paul on

Wow! What an adventure! Vero is very impressed with how far you are walking. She thinks you are real adventurers :-) We estimated 20km from Google maps for your first day and about 18 or more tomorrow if you are going to Zubiri.

Good luck from your admirers in Bali!
