Another Sick day in Koh Samui.....
Entry 62 of 110 | show all | print this entry |
Ok - so we unfortunately do not feel any better today. I think we're both a little worse. We attempted to go to the beach this morning - but neither of us were really in the mood. The fact that the sun had disappeared today did not make it any better.
The highlight of the day was getting back to our hotel room after the beach, ready to update our travelogues for everyone. When I went to get the camera cord to upload the pictures...I noticed that our little red bag of electronic equipment and one of our new hard drives was MISSING. Yes, missing. This did not make me very happy, but we tried to keep our cool. We searched the entire room from top to bottom - but our little red bag was nowhere to be found - and I KNOW that it had been sitting on the desk in the room before we left. The room had been cleaned while we were gone - something we don't normally have done because of potential theft, but our room was full of sand and pretty disgustingly dirty - so we unfortunately had risked it!! At this point, we also noticed the huge laminated sign in the room that said "management takes NO responsibility for any missing or stolen goods"....Great, just great. It was then that we realized just how valuable a camera battery charger is! Not in monetary value - but in importance!!! I started to get nervous, as both of our batteries were now dead.
So, we headed downstairs to the front desk - and after a few minutes of explanation, the front desk clerk, the maid, and another random lady trooped up to our room and looked around with dumbfounded looks. After about 15 minutes of us describing the items, and assuring them that they had NO monetary worth.....we decided that we would go to lunch - and if the cleaning lady could "look around" to see if she could find it, we'd be back in an hour. I don't think we could have handled it any better! After a lunch of our FAVORITE pad thai (we have a bad habit of going back again and again to our favorite places - remember Desnivel?), we got back to the hotel, only to discover that the maid had FOUND our stuff! Amazing! She claimed it was in one of Jose's backpacks....not possible I knew, because we hadn't opened it since leaving Bangkok....but whatever! We got our stuff back, no police involved, everyone was happy. As we headed back outside, we apologized for the confusion to the desk - even though we are 99% sure the stuff was taken.... but whatever. No harm done.
Anyway, we still feel SICK. I had wanted to rent a scooter and go around the island today, but really did not have the energy to do anything but sit, read, and drink frappucinos and gatorade. I had another suit fitting today - these guys are getting a real lesson in suits - and Jose is teaching them! My suit's craftsmanship is a little shaky - but I'm hoping tomorrow it turns out okay! We've nitpicked every potential detail and driven these guys crazy, but it will be well worth it in the end!
Anyways, I bought another used book and have enjoyed actually having some real reaidng time for once - we are on vacation after all!
Hopefully tomorrow we will feel much better and have more exciting stories (with less coughing) to report! Miss everyone!
Love,
Jose and Andrea
