Happy Easter! So last night we went to an Uruguyan bar, and after a few litres of Cerveza, Jose made friends with an Argentinian couple next to us. Things were cheerful, until they asked us about Pres. Bush and Iraq... apparently everyone around here thinks that the U.S. is stealing oil from Iraq..... that was an interesting conversation.....
We began the next morning by searching for the San Ignacio Church, supposedly the first Jesuit church in Argentina. We stopped in several beautiful cathedrals where San Ignacio was supposed to be located, but none were named San Ignacio. After much frustration, a policeman finally explained to us that the San Ignacio Parish IS the Franciscan Church? Left slightly confused, we headed off to Mass at the Catedral Metropolitana
We then hopped on the Subte (subway) to Palermo Viejo only to be greeted by (who else) Barney! See photos attached of some very scared Argentinian children.....}
Palermo Viejo had great shopping and food, two of our favorite things! The neighborhood was super trendy - so trendy in fact that they are the first to have shopping actually IN the bars (brilliant!). After a few drinks at the bar/clothing store, we headed off to Florida Street for MORE shopping! Jose's smoothly negotiated his way into not one, but TWO genuine leather jackets, perfectly customized for him. What a deal! Andrea, on the other hand, negotiated down from 30 to 20 pesos for a cute pair of pants...which later we discovered had a huge hole in the side.... oops!
However, the greatest accomplishment of the day was actually finding a Citibank to get some pesos! Yesterday they told us their were NONE within the City...and the HSBC bank ATM had politely told us "no gracias" to our peso request. So, now we have pesos, two jackets, and a ton of red meat in our bellies!
We miss everyone! Keep sending wedding pictures! We're keeping you all in our prayers (easy to do with all of these churches around here....)
