I'd been reading about bears since seeing warning signs in Mammoth Lakes, how cool would it be to see one (from a safe viewing distance of course). Richie is substantially disappointed there will be no hiking as he wanted to put his bear scaring skills into action... "Rrrarrrahhh..."
No, not really, apparently you're supposed to throw stones and/or pine cones at them to scare them away. (Rich: knowing my luck I would hit the bear in the head like you are NOT supposed to!)
We continue north to South Lake Tahoe and begin to wonder if there is more natural snowfall here in summer than Australia has in winter
South Lake Tahoe is located right on the Nevada/California border. How can you tell? There's mini-Vegas before the 'welcome to California' sign. To refer to another of out favorite snow towns, it's like Wanaka, New Zealand in the winter. The type of place where you find a log cabin, light a fire and spend a winter with snow a metre deep, stunning views of the lake and an endless blue sky.
Babe, when are we coming back?
