Hickatee Cottages - Luxury in the Jungle; We stayed here for two days and were warmly welcomed and attended to by Ian and Kate, a British couple who own the place. It is a beautifully landscaped property with 6 cottages. We stayed in Hickatee Den, a smaller cottage which is perfect for two people; we were very comfortable. It is peaceful, relaxing and lovingly cared for by the owners and the staff. There are about 40 different types of orchids, which apparently do not flower, but do attract butterflies, which is one of Ian's passions. The place is about a 10 minute drive from town, which you can access by calling Flo and her taxi - a wonderful person who is very friendly, apparently she also does laundry. There are complimentary bikes that we rode into town, visited the market, had lunch at Driftwood Café, lunch at Marianne's and supper at Asha's, all on different days mind you. At Asha's we had a great meal of the local fish (Lion Fish), which is not indigeneous to these waters, but who seem to be taking over. Every one seems to encourage eating this type of fish. We would recommend these places as they have excellent food.We shared a wonderful evening of food and conversation with Dan and Mark, who were from England. One night we ate at Hickatee cottage, and had a fantastic meal - claimed to have been cooked by Ian, but actually cooked by Kate. Yah!! Kate. But Ian is a wonderful host, quick with a joke and a smile. Complimentary breakfast of fresh bread, rolls, and jam is available, but also bacon, sausage and eggs. Very tasty place to stay.
