Hi -

Waking up after an easy night in Luxembourg, we took the next train to Maastricht, Netherlands. Chris and I have been to Maastricht before. Two years ago, we traveled hear with a soccer team and stayed in the town for a week or so, practicing and playing local Dutch teams. It would be exciting to see the same town again, kinda like a European homecoming for us. However, before heading to Maastricht, we took a slight detour into Germany, to a town called Cologne. It is most famous for its gigantic cathedral called the "Dom," so we had to see it. We arrived around 1, and luck was with us, because the cathedral was only blocks from the train station. We visited it, ate at a cafe, and continued on to Maastricht. We got to the southern Dutch city in the late afternoon, got a place to stay, and heading into the city center. There was a big summer festival going on; there must have been forty or fifty groups of these samba drum bands, and they were walking all over the city playing for the people like us, sitting in the cafes and squares. That night was probably one of the most fun yet. We watched Gaelic football, hurley, and even a regular soccer match at a local Irish pub called Mullin's. We met a couple blokes, Marko and Nick, who live in Maastricht, and so we drank and walked all around the city with them..finally around 2am, we made it back to our rooms just in time to pass out onto the beds..
