Where I stayed
We wander down to another hotel and pay our monies to be shipped directly to the front door of the Sarawak Cultural Village. We had heard it was a bit hokey, and those comment were right. Nonetheless this is a hard working bunch of folks trying to demonstrate the rich and broad cultures that make up the Borneo populus.
The theatre show was impressive and professional and easily one of the best things we've seen, it even had headhunting humour.
Around the various tribal longhouses and we get to the Penan huts. These guys were persistently nomadic and the hut is really just a palm frond hut, no spectacular adornments, a fire pit and a poor bored attendant with a really bad Fred Flintsonish haircut
We saw some cool longhouses and by late in the afternoon we made it around to the Bidayuh longhouse, where the attendant lady was asleep. Longhouse style.
On the way back we stop in at…another shopping mall. Greeks Camping Store is an odd name for a shop but I want a good folding knife. No self respecting Borneo adventurer can be without a knife.
And J-she needs some thongs. No self respecting little Asian Bornean can be without a good pair of flip flops.
We finish up the day with dinner at a working mans Chinese café. It wasn’t very good but it was relatively cheap.
I want to stop in at Everise just because I can, but J-she won’t let me.
Back to Lime Tree and sleep.
No Pongo. No Durian and no Everise. :-)
