Calling Yangshuo home for the last few days has been easy with a huge western backpacker following who have either settled or passing through it is also growing ever popular with the Chinese tourists aswell. Arriving in town it was hard not to notice the little limestone cliffs and hills surrounding the town and no wonder why Yangshuo has got the reputation that it has.
My Li river cruise was a treat when we all hopped on a small boat with only 6 people strolling through the river (we passed numerous ones that were packed like sardines) that disected the limestone cliffs and hills. Locals still preferred to travel by bamboo raft and now and again you would see a water buffalo emerge from the depths onto dry land. The boatman described it as the most beautiful place in the world (comes close) and there were countless boats zipping up and down the river. We thought the tour company was trying to cheat us when they ushered us into an empty restaraunt and told us we had to pay for a special car that they will order for us to get back to Yangshuo. But we were wrong as the bus company conveniently decided to call a strike whilst we were on the cruise that left us an hour out of Yangshuo. It took some time to bargain down a car to get everyone back but it was three hours later and it took a few cars to do so.
