Our trip to Fes el-Bali left us in a daze when we arrived into town at 5am with bruised backs from trying to conform to our hardened bus seats. Walking in the Medina {Funky Cold Medina...} we encountered so much hassling and taunts that I have changed my name to Toyo Watanabe and claimed heritage from Tokyo, Japan. With my new identity we strolled through the souq and visited a Merdersa by the name of Bau Noinani? and examined up close some intricately detailed woodworks and mosaiacs until they kicked us out at 1600 as it was prayer time. The resident Iman was not impressed with the other lingering tour groups making who had over stayed their welcome. We were lucky? enough to have stumbled co-incidently into Fez for the Sacred World Music Festival that started that night. Tired and unimpresseed we slept and I dreamt to the sound of prayers from the Koran and Allah Akbar being chanted over and over again. Later did I realise that the chants were real and that they were coming from just outside the window where 1 of the 320 Minaret's {equipped with 20inch subs} in the Medina were blasting their sounds of praise.
