If you´ve seen one Mexican town you´ve seen them all...... well not quite. Merida is BIG! With bustling traffic, grandiose churches, numerous mexicans making their way throw life and an extravagant town centre with horse drawn carriages lined with roses, musicians all hanging about with their guitars and Christmas decorations on every street it seemed surreal to see such a big town almost being choked to death by the traffic and yet retain its serenity.
Wandering around for days we have managed to walk the soles off our feet but in the process upgraded the camera to a bigger, better and newer one. Trust me you will thank us for it! The best mexican food was also eaten here and I am sad to say that it came from a Tex-Mex chain. Not much else to report except that the phenomenon of 14 year old girls wearing absolutely nothing extends outside of Sydney to Merida aswell. The hustlers here are more game and have a better standing as they speak perfect english and seem genuine about wanting to help you out before they introduce you to their Artesian store
Also had the worst nights sleep last night. 1. With paper thin walls our next door neighbour has got to be a contender for loudest randomn snorer in the Americas, it was a wonder throughout the night how he didn´t wake himself up from the noise or choke himself to death with the flem that had built up in his passages. 2. Renovation of the building across the street was being made at 2am in the morning as big cranes had to be moved into town and set up on one of the main streets which were visible and definitely audible from our window 3. ZZZZZZzzzzt.....our lovely insect friends biting and teasing us all through the night. They even caused me to inadvertently elbow poor Amber in the head whilst trying to smack my own ear where the mosquito had decided to warn me of his next manouvere. Honestly I would say that a total of no more than 55 minutes of sleep was achieved overall.
Tomorrow rest, relaxation and more ruins!
